The goal of our lectures is to reveal to students the extraordinarily rich, colorful, and unique world of Armenian art, to showcase the national characteristics of the creative work of one of the world’s ancient peoples, who have transformed their spirit in the new trends of the XX century. To introduce them to numerous bright names of sculptors and artists (lectures will be accompanied by visits to museums and art galleries). Lecture topics: Main stages and prerequisites for the development of Armenian art of the XX century. Armenian artists at the beginning of the century. V. Surenyants, Ye. Tatevosyan, G. Bashinjaghyan, M. Saryan, G. Yakulov, and others. Socialist realism in the works of Armenian masters. Monumental sculpture of Armenia. S. Merkurov, A. Sargsyan, N. Nikoghosyan, S. Stepanyan, S. Baghdasaryan, and others. New trends in painting of the 1960s-1970s. The Severe Style. The Museum of Modern Art in Yerevan (1972). The works of A. Kojoyan, O. Zardaryan, Ye. Kochar, I. Karalyan, A. Galentz, S. Muradyan, M. Avetisyan, H. Khanjyan, A. Hakobyan, and many others. Monumental painting, small plastic arts, conceptual art.
